Unit X !

Hello World!

I have some bad news and some good news!!!

Bad news is this is officially my last blog for Unit X in which I will discuss things about Unit X, Why I liked it? Why I hated it? Expectations? Improvements? etc. And Good news is I may continue to blog about media even after my blogs has been marked!

Let me firstly start with the fact that before this unit I had never blogged before. A friends of mine has her own blog and encouraged me to make one but I guess I never got round to it. So as you can imaging I was a little nervous about writing a blog, and on top of that t was getting marked! So I did a lot of research but not all were quite getting through to me. As support out teachers had arrange a guest speaker, Noel, to come in and give us some advise on blogging and how much fun it can be. He made me realize that blogging was literally just giving your opinion with a bit of facts, and I have a lot of opinions trust me.

As I was at a stage in life were I wasn’t getting much media influence; I didn’t watch TV, hardly used social media sites, hardly listened to music, the Unit X leaders decided to organize weekly trips to the AMC cinema for everyone in the course, screening the latest films, which e can then review I out blogs, hence the reason why most of my blog is film review. Which is fine by me because I absolutely love films. I was very grateful for tis chance, though it came by surprise; I mean we got to watch new films for free!! Cool or what?

We had weekly seminars in which our teacher gave us feed back on our blogs and gave us any advise if need. However what I loved about this course what how hassle free and stress free it was; we had all the information we need and all the help. For example Stella Gaynor, one of our lecturers, would wait in a particular are of our building called the ‘Village Green’ for anyone who was struggling to blog or think of ideas etc. iv never visited her personally but I loved how dedicated she was to make sure we had everything we needed.

One thing that helped me to blog was out ‘fms UNIT X’ Facebook page in which after every film we would discuss what everyone thought about the film. This gave me a real insight on other peoples thoughts without me asking them.

Overall, I loved writing this blog as it made me go out of my comfort zone of writing online, I love writing anyways however there is a massive difference between essay writing and blogging. I like to assume I was committed to the blogging as I commuted to manchester to go work in the groups, as well as do research in order to collects facts for my blog.  I learned a lot from blogging and definitely consider it as a future career as I want to go into journalism anyways so blogging isn’t far off.

So guys bye for now, inshallah see you all soon 🙂

stay well and just have fun 🙂

Group Work Reflective!

Hi everyone

So I will be doing a reflective on my group and how we worked together to created the infographs on my blog. So firstly, our teacher didn’t assign us particular groups as he though it would be good for us to work with people we were comfortable with, so I grouped up with Ameerah, Bethany and Elle who I associated with and was pretty comfortable working with.

It was very practical to work with them as we already had great communication; also we all had different skills that we put together. We decided we would create an infograph every week, on a Thursday, as we had a seminar that day, so it was practical for Ameerah and me as we commute to Uni.

To be honest we didn’t really assign any roles or responsibilities however after the first infograph we started forming a pattern where we were doing a particular thing just because that’s what we where good at.  For example, we found Bethany and Ella had great Photoshop skills so they worked on editing, Ameerah has a wonderfully creative mind, so she worked on ideas, from which we selected some, and I contributed with the writing and research as that’s what I like to do.  But as I mentioned, nothing was fixed so we did switch it round, which have us a chance to challenge ourselves in another skill.

As far as the infograph design is concerned, we didn’t want to keep it the same. We wanted to explore other ways and other techniques of creating a infograph. So as you can see on my blog we have one where we put the thoughts of spider man in speech bubbles in him head (which was actually an idea from an infograph about Kanye West), ‘Breaking Bad’ we did as a time line and others just as a random flow. So we tried to vary our ideas/designs just because we thought it would be boring to do the same thing over and over again.

Our first topic was actually a random one in my opinion, we just wanted to have a go at simplifying a complicated film, and tell me tell you Breaking Bad is very complicated, we had to look at a timeline and figure out where we were in the infograph.

The other three where influenced by the films we watched and places we went. For example, the saving money in cinema one came to us when we saw that at the AMC you can refill your large popcorn for free! The chick flick one was influences by The Other Women and the Spider-Man one was influenced by The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Working in a group certainly is different to individual work for many reasons such as in group work you help each other out, if you cant do something most likely someone else can and everyone learns something new while working with others.  For example, I picked up a lot Photoshop skills from Bethany and Elle and some research tips from Ameerah. Its also nice to work in a group because we can encourage each other as well as the fact that its nice when someone appreciates your work or ideas.

I really enjoyed working in a group and honestly thing we achieved a lot. I wouldn’t change anything, as far as improvements go, I don’t see any apart from trying more styles of infographs on new and more complicated topics.

Attack on Titan!

Hey everyone!

Well this will be my last media review for a while and I shall leave you with another one of my favourite animes, Attack On Titan (2013-current) known in Japan as Shingeki no Kyojin. Created by Hajime Isayama, Attack on Titan is set at a time where humanity is at its end and one by one being exterminated by creatures called ‘Titans’ and humans are forced to live within walls built higher than the tallest titan.

The story begins with the present where humanity hasn’t see a Titan for 100 years now and suddenly a ‘Colossal Titan’ appears out of nowhere; taller than the wall and with strength far greater than anyone’s ever see before.

The anime follows a little boy called Eren Jaegar, his adopted sister Mikasa Ackermann and friend Armin Arlert. At point in the story Eren is trying to persuade his family Shingeki_no_Kyojin_full_1495598to let him join the ‘Survey Corps’ an elite team of extraordinary humans trained to eliminate Titans and save humanity. When the attack takes place, and Titans once again begin to devour humans, Eren and Mikasa witness something horrifying and heart breaking which would lead them to an extraordinary amount of pain, anger and hatred for the Titans. They witness their mother being eaten alive by a Titan.

This anime contains many heart breaking and heart-warming scenes as the kids struggle to control their rage, as they help each other and become a family who is always Crying_Mikasa_and_Erenthere for one another. Armin, specially, is a character who is very weak and defenceless hence Mikasa and Eren become his shield, protect him from danger, at one point Eren saves Armin from a Titan, and end up in the stomach of that Titan, which leads Armin to determination of becoming stronger.

As the story continues, we get a slight hint of love from Mikasa towards Eren, not brotherly. This at first seems a little odd as we think of them as brothers and sisters; however, we forget that she is not Erens’ real sister, but adopted sister, who he saved as a kid from kidnappers. Although, Mikasa never really admits to her love her Eren she always regards him as her only family. This is so heart-warming for me as an audience, because these kids have nothing in the world to live for. Except each other.

84f167cb5e9bc56a2aa5bc5ac9377ddb_480Just when it seems all hope is lost, Eren is swimming in the stomach of a Titan, Armin is in a puddle of tears and Mikasa is fighting for her life, s surprise springs up which no one could have imagined. I won’t reveal what is but it could be what humanity has been waiting for all these years. Nevertheless, will they be able to accept it as a gift or will they rebel against it as a threat. And what has Erens Dad have to do in all of this? Who exactly is he?

I could totally recommend watching Attack on Titans to everyone. I fact I have! Just like HxH, AOT is action packed; it contains romance, hero’s, sacrifice, creatures (who are mindless), twists and turns. I give AOT 5/5 for its AWESOMENESS!!!!

Hunter x Hunter (2011)

What’s up everyone? As you may have noticed, most of my reviews are based on films, and if you remember correctly, I did mention in my ‘Media diary’ that I love to watch anime. So, I figured that this week I shall be writing a review on an anime, and which better to start with than one of my all-time favourites Hunter x Hunter (2011-current). HxH is the work of Yoshihiro Togashi, who also created Yu Yu Hakusho, which in my opinion is somewhat similar to HxH.

HxH is a story based around the character Gon Freecss, a young boy who lives on Whale Island, with his father’s childhood friend, Mito-san (who raised him after being abandoned by his dad) and his grandma. The story started with Gon wanting to participate in the Hunter Examination in order to become a legendary hunter like his dad, Ging, a renowned double star hunter. There is a scene In the first episode that really touched me and encouraged me to watch further, where Mito-san is explaining to Gon that being a hunter can put his life at risk, and Gon replies ‘I want to become a hunter and discover why it was so important to my dad’.

The story follows by Gons’ journey to the Hunter Examination where he befriends Kurapika, a sole survivor of the Kurta clan, Leorio, aiming to become a hunter doctor and Killua, the youngest son of the elite Zoldyck family of assassins. Although a very odd match, they all understand and help each other in their struggles and fears.

Once the Hunter Examination is over, Killua and Gon become very close friends, and Killua decides to go back to Whale Island with Gon as he is avoiding his Assassin family, specially his insane mother. Whereas, Kurapika goes to find the band of criminals known as the Phantom Troupes, who annihilated his clan, and Leorio goes home to become a doctor.

During their time apart, they are found by other powerful hunters, by the hunter association to teach these new hunters the extraordinary powers of Nen; using your aura to defend yourself from harm as well as attack with brutal force. I enjoyed this part of HxH a lot as I loved watching how their character developed with power mentally and physically.2I also loved how imaginative the editor was with the powers, for example, he gave Gons powers where he using his aura in the form of Rock, Paper and Scissors and Killua is able to generate electricity. Kurapika, however, gains a special power called the ‘Conjuring Chain’, which are five chains that extend from each finger on his right hand, all the chains with certain different abilities such as the ‘Holy Chain’ is able to heal injuries.

Over all, I completely and utterly love Hunter x hunter, in my opinion it is one of the most brilliant animes made, it does’t make the villains mindless idiots, the character development is awesome and the relationships/bonds are so strong and heart-warming. I am yet to find out if Gon finds his father and where is the perky Leorio? So I rate Hunter x Hunter 5/5. Watch it and let me know what you think 🙂

Captain American : The Winter Soldier!

Guten Tag dudes and dudettes 😀

So people, hope all is well!! This week I’ve had the privilege to watch Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014). Yaaay!! After watching Captain America and The Avengers I wasn’t expecting a second Captain America however I must say this surprise was very pleasant as this movie has left a very good impression on me.  I won’t reveal much about the film for those who haven’t watched it, but… there will definitely be a third film.

The director of the first Captain America Film was Joe Johnston. However Marvel Studios have chosen to let the Russo Brothers direct the second Captain America Movie and news has it that they will most likely be back to do the third one too.  They have worked on many movies together before such as Community (2009) and You, Me and Dupree (2006).

Firstly, we all know that the star of Captain America, Steve Rogers, is the great Chris Evans, however he is also accompanied by Scarlett Johansson as ‘Natasha Romanoff’ otherwise known as the ‘Black Widow’, as well as Anthony Mackie as ‘Sam Wilson’ otherwise known as ‘Falcon’. We already know the story of Captain America and Black Widow, however the Falcon is a new character that is supposedly able to fly with the help of metal wings powered by an engine backpack3ba4db47_zb03 of some sort. Although it seems unrealistic, I did find it very impressive, especially the shapes of the wing; Angel wings.

Wilson (Falcon) is introduced in Washington D.C. where he and Rogers are jogging, and Rogers is doing many more laps tumblr_n3m99zIlPz1su6zr6o4_400than Wilson and shouting ‘on your left!’ every time passing him. This annoys Wilson and leads them to convers. Rogers later realizes that Wilson runs a counseling group where he helps other from the military to overcome their sadness and despair. This surely leads to a beautiful friendship.

The basic story line is that S.H.I.E.L.D is compromised and Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson) seems to be the cause of it. However, we later find out that it is in fact Alexander Pierce (Robert Redford) who is framing Fury as well as working as a double agent, leading the evil group called ‘Hydra’ within S.H.I.E.L.D.

Pierce puts all his firepower into killing Nick Fury, as well as his biggest and strongest weapon of all is ‘The Winter Soldier’; an ancient Russian assassin, with a steel arm, whom later becomes enemies with Captain America. But is there a deeper meaning to their relationship? Why does the Winter Soldier hesitate to kill the Captain?

Overall, I loved watching the film, and discovering its twists and turns. I would rate it 5/5 and am looking forward to the third movie. Well, I shall leave you will this for today, hope you all enjoyed reading my blog. Please share and like and give some feed back 😀

‘Rather Be’ By Clean Bandit ft Jess Glynne

Hey All!

So I’ve Reviewed a film so thought id do something different. I haven’t listened to any new music lately so I was a little stuck with that. While strolling thought YouTube I stumbled upon ‘Rather Be’ by Clean Bandit Ft Jess Glynne, and it instantly took my interest. The first thing that came to my mind was ‘Why the hell is it shot in Japan?’

For those of you who don’t know, the song is a ‘baroque pop’ – a fusion of hip-hip, electronics and classical. I for one really enjoy classical music, specially the sound of violins, which this song contains a lot of. So the video starts with a Kio pond leading to a Japanese girls being woken by her cat. The video generally follows this girl on her day to day activities while she is lipping the words of ‘Rather Be’. After a few seconds on to the video it would seem that she starts to see ordinary people as the Clean Bandits. For example, first in the place of a noodle advert she sees Luke Patterson’s Picture…

Then she looks at the counter lady while taking change and sees her as Grace Chatto.

Screen Shot 2014-04-19 at 15.34.44

Another thing I’ve noticed is the four shape pattern that is, I think, Clean Bandits Logo appears very frequently in the video,

As lampshades…

Screen Shot 2014-04-19 at 15.38.58

As Food…

Screen Shot 2014-04-19 at 15.38.21

Inside Fish in the fish market…

Screen Shot 2014-04-19 at 15.36.10

In the pupil of a street performer…

Screen Shot 2014-04-19 at 15.41.26

What exactly does these shapes, this logo stand for? Well … I have no idea, however we can assume that since there are four band members, maybe each shape stands for each band member.

Although the song itself is very romantic song, ‘When I am with you there’s no place id rather be’, the video doesn’t show any kind of romance at all, which is really a shame as they could have created a pretty nice romantic story with those lyrics. The video seemed more like an obsessive fan, hallucinating or fantasizing about the band members.

So at the start it looks like the girl is somewhat obsessed, however as we watch more we see that that girl notices her obsession and starts to worry about it. She finds her obsession an issue and tries to run away from it, however as soon as she hits her bed she is taken to a Clean Bandit concert.

Screen Shot 2014-04-19 at 16.06.02

In the end, her obsession becomes too much for her and she is shown to have collapse in on a train/tram.

Screen Shot 2014-04-19 at 16.08.15

Screen Shot 2014-04-19 at 16.09.32

Well, overall the song Alone is very good and the video is quiet interesting however together they don’t quite mix because while watching the video you to concentrated on what’s happening to the girl that you don’t listen to the lyrics and its meanings. I would rate the whole thing 6/10, but individually maybe 8/10.

That’s all I have to say for now! 😛

Everyone have an AWESOME day !
